Bath Time

Alright, I need some ideas... Ryan has suddenly developed a paralyzing fear of the bath. He refuses to sit down and just stands there and cries the whole time we're washing him. We have tons of bath toys and I'm pretty sure the water temperature is fine. Any thoughts? I don't think he's ever LOVED the bath, but he's tolerated it fairly well up until now. It could be that he's just starting to express himself, lucky for us. Anyone go through this? Any ideas on how to make bathtime fun?

Will he accept a shower with either of you? I know folks who have gone that route, even this young.

I definitely know people who shower with a one year old. Alternatively, take the bath with him until he's comfortable again. Josie went through a weird phase of hating the bath as well. We also just stopped bathing her as part of the bedtime route and just went back to 'as needed' to at least avoid as much unpleasantness as possible.

Xander did the same thing when we went to my folks' house and didn't bring his infant/toddler bath.

you might try taking a bath with him. having a parent in the tub to splash might be fun.

Maybe he'd like a drink from the firehose? Then the shower wouldn't seem so scary :).

The baby books I've read suggest sponge bathing until he doesn't seem so scared anymore, trying the regular bath every now and then to see how he reacts. - Sharona
